Update: Betterview and AirMap Announce LAANC Expansion

Update: Betterview and AirMap Announce LAANC Expansion

A few weeks ago, Betterview announced it had integrated AirMap, the world’s leading airspace management platform for drones, into its mobile application.

This partnership solves a huge problem for Property & Casualty insurers by eliminating the need for drone pilots to manually apply for FAA waivers (approval process can take up to 90 days in some instances) in order to inspect properties in restricted airspace by U.S. airports.

Betterview’s digital authorizations through AirMap are part of the FAA Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) program.  If you’re not familiar with LAANC, it allows commercial drone operators to apply for digital authorizations to fly in controlled airspace near select U.S. airports.

Recently, AirMap announced a nationwide expansion of LAANC to 500 more airports beginning next month. Drone pilots near select airports in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas will be the first to get started with LAANC authorization this spring.

This news comes at the perfect time for insurers with hail season starting on March 20th and the 2018 hurricane season less than four months away. Betterview will be offering digital authorizations to our customers the following ways:

  • Full stack software solution: For insurers who have their own drones but use our software to capture, organize and analyze drone imagery.
  • Commercial drone inspection package: Pre-assembled package that comes with DJI drone, tablet, software, training and more.
  • Betterview Pilot Network: On-demand drone network of 4,400 + pilots used by insurance carriers to request drone inspections for underwriting, claims and catastrophe response.

As always we will make sure to keep you posted on the latest LAANC updates from AirMap.  For questions and additional information, please contact Paul Ptashnick at email.
